ANDRADE, EDWARD J. 88, of Charlotte, NC passed peacefully Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersvile, NC with his daughter at his side. In 2008 he suffered a stroke and continuously battled congestive heart failure. Born in New Bedford, MA on October 8, 1925, he was the son of the late whaling first mate Jose Gomes Andrade, and Charlotte (Teixeria) Andrade Silva. He was the longtime companion of the late “Lucy” (Soares) Colebut . Edward was raised and lived in Carver and Wareham MA. He attended school in West Wareham, MA. He was a longtime resident of East Providence, RI. He relocated to NC, 13 years ago to be closer to his daughter and granddaughter. Edward was a retiree and member of the International Longshoremen’s Association, Local #1329, where he was known as “Captain”. He was employed by Rhode Island Shipping Assoc. He was a World War II, army veteran who served honorably as a sergeant in the Pacific. Eddie enjoyed listening to sports on the radio, Cape Verdean music, sitting by the shoreline, and for the past 13 years residing with and spending time with his granddaughter Bryana. Edward leaves his daughter Francelia Yvette Andrade and granddaughter Bryana Carlotta Luzia Maya Andrade Williams, at home, a sister Rose (Andrade) Wynkoop, of Providence, RI, a brother Frank G. Andrade of Wareham, MA, his godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren of his late companion, and friends. He was the brother of the late Edward “Joe” Andrade, Armand Andrade, Julia (Andrade) Gay and Francelia (Andrade) Monteiro, and the father of the late “Baby Boy” Andrade. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick’s Church, 94 High Street, Wareham, MA at 10:00 a.m., Friday September 19, 2014. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, with full military honors.
